Is a hypo-allergenic duvet and pillow filling better for my child even if they don’t suffer from allergies?
Even if your child is not an allergy sufferer, the Spundown children’s duvet is still an excellent choice of duvet as you may:
Simply prefer the superbly soft feel of this synthetic fibre-filled duvet.
Require a more cost effective choice for your child, especially considering they will outgrow their cot bed after 3 - 5 years
Prefer a more practical choice of duvet that may be washed easily and possibly more frequently than you might wash your own duvet. If milk or juice is split on the duvet, or a bedwetting accident occurs which affects the duvet the Spundown children’s duvet can be washed and dried quickly and easily by bedtime the same day, which has got to be more convenient and less stressful for both parent and child!
Please note: though there are a number of hypoallergenic cot bed duvets on the market, it is important to choose one with a high quality filling that will remain soft and comfortable, especially with repeated washing. It must also be durable and last for at least as long as your child remains in their cot bed and possibly for subsequent use by a younger sibling.
The soft microfibre filling of the Spundown children’s duvet is extremely high quality, and was developed following the success of the washable Spundown duvet, which won the Queen’s award for excellence and innovation as all sizes and togs of this duvet may be washed at home in a standard washing machine. Cheaper versions of cot bed duvets must be avoided at all costs as they will become lumpy and uncomfortable over time.
Which tog rating duvet should I choose for my child?
Firstly, the British "T0G" value is the international standard measurement of all duvets' thermal effectiveness (how well it keeps you warm). The higher the number then the warmer the duvet will be. For example, an adult winter duvet is usually between 9 and 13.5 togs and a summer duvet around 4.5 togs.
The guidelines for children are relatively simple. Bearing in mind that it is just as important for children to avoid getting too hot as it is to avoid getting chilled, combined with the fact that that young children can’t regulate their own body temperature and overheat easily, it is recommended that duvets for very young children of just over 1 year old should be no more than 4.5 togs.
Age 1-5 years: 3 or 4.5 tog duvet all year round. However, should you live in a very cold house, you may find your child requires the 7 Tog cot bed duvet option for use in the very cold months of the year. Alternatively, use the 3 or 4.5 tog duvet with a blanket or bedspread layered over the top.
Age 5+ years 3: a 3 or 4.5 tog duvet most of the year, then in winter use a 6 tog, 7 Tog cot bed duvet, to a 9 tog duvet or use the 3 or 4.5 tog with a blanket or bedspread layered on top.
