One of the main factors that can upset a good night's sleep is when your body is unable to achieve the optimum temperature for sleep. This is a body temperature of 28C-29°C (82F-84°F) and is just below normal body temperature. In the warmer summer months it is therefore advisable to sleep under a duvet containing LESS insulating filling than that of your autumn or winter duvet. A thinner, lightweight duvet will provide LESS warmth, so you are LESS likely to overheat in bed.

The most popular low tog duvet is a 4.5 tog duvet, but 3 tog and 7 tog duvets are also available:

Without wishing to confuse, but due to the existence of warm lightweight duvets (ie those duvets filled with the softest, lightest, warmest duvet fillings, where only a small amount of filling is required to achieve a very warm duvet) we, in the UK, use the 'tog' system to measure the warmth of a duvet*. The higher the tog rating, the warmer the duvet.

*A "tog" is a measure of thermal resistance of a unit.
