Breathable Duvets

Breathable Duvets

We believe the duvets below to be supremely BREATHABLE. Filled or encased in either natural fibres (feather and down, silk and cotton), new synthetic (microfibre) and/or man-made eco-friendly fibres (Modal®), each of these duvets has the ability to absorb and disperse excess humidity to provide a fresh, light and more comfortable night's sleep:

There are verified health reasons for placing natural fibres against your skin, whether it be in the clothes you wear, or the bedding in which you sleep. Up until recently, the inherent characteristics of natural fibres have offered significant advantages in BREATHABILITY, temperature regulation, durability, and more, versus synthetic fibres. However, advances in technology have led fibre-processing companies to create new synthetic and man-made eco-friendly fibres that possess important health attributes comparable to natural fibres.

Here is more information regarding the breathable fibres from which our duvets are made:

FEATHERS AND DOWN

Wonderfully durable and naturally breathable. Duvets with a feather and/or down filling will last a lot longer, generally three times longer, than their synthetic counterparts.

COTTON

We're all pretty familiar with cottons positive qualities in terms of its strength, durability and absorbency. Its robust nature has enabled it to become the mainstay of the washable world for centuries, as it may be washed thousands of times; whilst its soft texture (which feels wonderful against the skin) and breathable nature make it very comfortable to wear or sleep in.

MICROFIBRE

Microfibres are finely woven fibres made in the lab, not formed in nature. They are ten times finer than silk and extremely fine compared to cotton strands so may be densely packed into a small space to create a high surface area. Microfibre was specifically designed to wick moisture away from the skin and increase breathabilty, making it ideal for use in bedding (and sportswear). In terms of its absorbency, microfibre will absorb 98% moisture while cotton can only absorb 70% at best, a 100% Microfibre duvet is therefore thirstier than a 100% Cotton duvet, whilst being softer and less bulky too. Microfibre also out performs cotton as its polyester and polyamide fibres are stronger and more durable, resistant to stretching, shrinking and creasing which guarantees shape retention. It is also wrinkle, mildew and abrasion resistant due to its high elasticity. Moreover, it is resistant to most chemicals, is easily washable and dries very quickly. So fast, in fact, that a microfibre duvet is practically dry when removed from the washing machine afer the spin cycle!

SILK

Pure silk is the only natural protein fibre that comes in a filament form, produced and pushed out by the larvae of silkworms in one continuous strand several hundred metres long, during the construction of its cocoon. The filament is then unwound and specially treated using ancient techniques to create a natural fibre best known for its luxurious softness and lustrous beauty. Silk is also a wonderfully breathable, all-climate fibre which can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp. It is warm (without bulk) in winter, and comfortably cool in warmer temperatures. Contrary to misconceptions about its delicacy, it is actually an immensely robust and strong natural fibre which is hypoallergenic because of its natural protein structure.

MODAL®

Modal® is currently the new "wonder" fibre. It is a processed, bio-based fibre made from the reconstituted cellulose of beech trees. This fabric combines the benefits of natural fibre and the supersoft feel of modern microfibres: soft and smooth, with a texture similar to that of cotton or silk, cool to the touch, very absorbent, breathes well and resists shrinking more than cotton. Modal® is a super absorbent fibre with the luster of silk, more absorbent than Egyptian cotton and significantly more absorbent than cotton (up to 40% more absorbent), it remains soft and lustrous after several washes.
