Fitted Sheets

Fitted Sheets

Fitted sheets, sometimes called bottom sheets, are the sheets that cover the mattress on a bed. Fitted sheets generally have elastic sewn into each one of the four corners to help it stay in place over your mattress.

Choosing the Right Size Sheet
Fitted sheets are available as a co-ordinating part of many of the bed linen ranges we offer. However, they can be the one part of a bed linen range that can cause problems if the correct size of sheet is not available to suit the size of your mattress. Furthermore, it is not worth compromising on the size of a fitted sheet as they have a habit of not staying in place if they are not quite the right size. It is therefore a good idea to check the size of your mattress prior to making a purchase. For though UK mattresses have a standard width and length, they don't have a standard depth. The fitted sheet must therefore be adequately deep to fit over your mattress. Deeper mattresses often pose difficulties when searching for the perfect fitted sheet.

Farbic Quality
When selecting a fitted sheet, the actual material is mostly a matter of personal preference and comfort, rather than an indicator of quality, though certain fabrics don't wash as well as others. Polyester blends might be slightly more resistant to creasing, they aren't usually quite as soft and are more likely to pill than 100% cotton.

Thread Count
When it comes to fabric quality, thread count is the best indicator of the quality of sheets. Thread count refers to the number of threads per square inch in the fabric. A thread count of 200 (such as our percale fitted sheets) or higher is desirable, with 300 thread count fitted sheets or higher being considered of superior quality. A thread count less than 200 is unacceptable and though cheaper to buy, costs more in the long run as it will simply wear out much quicker. After all, fitted sheets wear out faster than flat sheets or duvet covers, so it worth investing in good quality fitted sheets.
